Last September 30, at Lar Otília Lourenço, in Abiul, the opening ceremony of the remodeling and expansion of the Foundation's facilities took place, as well as the tribute to Mr. Dr. Alberto Vaz Serra e Sousa and Mr. Esmeraldo Cunha, chairman of the Foundation's board of directors until 2019 and vice-president of the institution, respectively.
Present at the ceremony were the Hon. Mayor of Pombal, Dr. Pedro Pimpão, Messrs. City Council members, Dr. Isabel Damasceno President of CCDR Centro, as well as Mr. Dr. Silva Cordeiro, Member of the General Council of the Portuguese Ordem dos Advogados, among other distinguished guests. During this afternoon, the importance of the Abiulense benefactor Dr. José Lourenço Júnior, who established the Foundation in 1994. The difficulties and opportunities that have arisen over the last few years were addressed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Arqta. Isabel Vaz Serra, as well as the challenges that the future provides for the IPSS. Guests took advantage of the visit to the facilities to get to know the new multisensory space - Sala Snoezelen - one of the Foundation's most recent services. Finally, in a symbolic gesture, the first seed was planted in the Jardim do Lar Otília Lourenço, in what will be the new initiative of the Dr. José Lourenço Júnior: the creation of a Sensory Garden!
